Arc Science Fellows
The Arc Science Fellows program is designed for outstanding early career scientists who are seeking an opportunity to transition to a principal investigator position directly after their doctoral training. To accelerate independent careers, this program provides Arc Fellows with leadership training and full salary and research support for their group.
Arc Science Fellows are active members of the Arc community and have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with our Core Investigators, Technology Centers and Translational Programs.
Our next open call for Science Fellow applications will be in Fall 2024.
Becoming a Science Fellow at Arc
Appointment
Arc Science Fellows are appointed for a five-year term at Arc, with a formal check-in after three years.Science Fellows are independent group leaders who pursue research agendas with a combination of innovative technologies, originality, and risk that are unlikely to be supported by traditional funding sources.
Eligibility
This program is targeted to individuals who have completed their graduate training (e.g., PhD, MD, MD/PhD) within the last two years.Individuals who are authorized to work in the US as well as those who require visa sponsorship are eligible.
We welcome applications from candidates at any organization, not just those from our current partner universities.
Scientific Focus Areas
The focus areas for our current call for applications are Neurobiology, Immunology, Computational Science, Human Genetics, Chemical Biology, and Technology Development.Focus areas are set for each application cycle.
Funding
Arc Science Fellows are provided an annual direct cost budget to support their research program, including a team of 2-4 people.This is separate from and in addition to the salary and benefits of the Science Fellow.
Lab Space
Arc Science Fellow labs are located at Arc headquarters in the Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto, CA.Our building is a state-of-the-art 100,000 sq. ft. research facility which houses all of our research labs, Technology Centers, core facilities, and extensive shared equipment.
Arc headquarters features open lab floor plans. Lab and office space assigned to each Arc Science Fellow can accommodate up to 4 people.
Resources
We have a robust infrastructure to support our research teams, including general operational and lab support, a centralized stockroom, and shared equipment for major molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics workflows.Arc Science Fellows have access to our technology platforms and core facilities and the opportunity to collaborate with Technology Centers. Our team of highly talented individuals also supports Science Fellows in the areas of people, recruiting, finance, legal, IP, lab operations, communications and university relations and academic affairs. We also have dedicated scientific publication support for all our researchers.
